Quick show of hands: who got an 8% raise last year?

Anyone?

8% is a lot.

What's a raise... neither my husband or I have gotten one in years.

You are scum.

Why are they scum? Teachers in MC are well paid, especially compared to other places. They earn far more than the average county employee and get better benefits, holidays, vacations, etc.

The property tax increases and pay raises are obscene. Do they think other people who actually live in the county are seeing pay increases of this magnitude?

It's interesting that the Council members are still giving themselves raises while denying others their previously negotiated raises.

I hope they give them the 8%. They teach our kids and the least we can do is give them a salary that shows the importance of their job. They work way harder than people think, too.

I know. They get paid for ten months and essentially work closer to nine months.

My friend earns over $90k...that's $10k a month.

I think teacher's are underpaid (even prorated for time off), but 8% is crazy. I wish I received a raise at that level!

Not OP but here is some text

Montgomery Council calls for reduction in wage in negotiated wage hikes
By Bill Turque and Donna St. George April 26 at 6:25 PM
The Montgomery County Council rejected a proposed $100 million package of pay hikes averaging about 8 percent for teachers and other unionized employees Tuesday, telling County Executive Isiah Leggett and the Board of Education that the increases need to be pared back.

The raises were negotiated by the county and school system as part of collective bargaining agreements. But council members, who are also considering a 6.4 percent property tax increase to fund the 2017 budget that goes into effect July 1, said the hikes are out of scale in an economy where inflation is low and Social Security beneficiaries won’t see an annual cost-of-living adjustment.
