If teenagers have poor impulse control and poor frontal lobes then they should not be driving. They don't and as parents we need to teach our kids not to drink and drive and if they or someone is drunk, do not get in the car and call us. You are making excuses. The adults are ultimately responsible for giving the kids alcohol without asking the parents first and taking the keys and arranging a ride home. The teens are responsible as the driver should never have drove and all the teens should have called for a ride.

I think both sets of parents are at fault. The hosts as well as the driver's parents. He had previous drinking citations, they must have known that he was drinking and driving but they turned a blind eye.

The kid wasn't driving form the party, he was a passenger in another car then got into his car at another location. not sure if that plays into this or not. but that is the major thing that was brought up and why he wasn't in more trouble.

Maryland is a "contributory negligence state" which means that a party "cannot recover damages from an injury in a negligence case if they are found to be partly at fault."
The passengers got into a car with a teen driver they knew to have been drinking. That makes the accident a foreseeable result of their actions and by law makes the passengers at least "partly at fault". Therefore the imprisoned teen driver (and his parents) cannot be held civilly liable. I'd say those suing parents should instead be thankful and humbled that their teens were spared death.

why not? Didn't the families of the victims of the affluenza kid go after his parents in a civil suit? It is a tragedy for the driver's parents as they have already lost a son, but this is not unprecedented.
Is this a separate incident? The driver was not killed.

OP here nope it's not against the Saltzmans it's against the kid that was driving.
All four kids were dumb that got in that car. Two are dead. One is going to jail. The parents of the kid that survived without jail time should be kissing the ground not filing a lawsuit. SMH.
