Sure, if you think changing a few words is songwriting. Beyoncé is a curator--she assembles songs to tell a story, which in this case may be a story about her parents or it may not be a story about anyone specific. The songs might apply to her life but they are not her truth, which is why I think it's silly to read into Beyoncé's lyrics in the same way as lyrics by someone like Taylor Swift (even if you hate Taylor, it is well known that she writes her own songs).

Lemonade was full of #blackgirlmagic! The scene where she's in the yellow dress floating in water is an obvious tribute to Oshun, the orisha of love and feminity.

Some of you may find this cool - two of the young artists featured (Chloe and Halle) are the daughters of a former track star at Lake Braddock (we went to high school together - I'm not positive if she won any individual state titles - I think she did - but she was positively one of the nicest kids at our school and seeing her kids make it big is awesome!)
