And you ruled out carpet beetle larvae already, OP?

The Amazon package was one. I've seen two in upstairs bedrooms, probably another 3 by the front door, 2 in the basement. And 3 right outside the garage.

Not Japanese beetles. Those larvae are white.
So two theories...either they came in the package or they all slid into the package for shelter and you transferred them in the house. Call in exterminator. You don't want to have your house overrun with whatever they are going to morph into.

Hmm...the package was just today and I've been seeing these guys for about a week now. I really think they are from the outside around here. We have a ton of those tent caterpillars around as well. One of those was crawling up my leg yesterday while I was playing with my kids on the playground. Perhaps I am just a disgusting caterpillar magnet and I need to live in Antartica.

OP here. The caterpillars in the Amazon box were the same ones I've been seeing around the house, so I'm pretty sure it had crawled in while it was sitting on my porch.

One caterpillar doesn't gross me out too bad, but it's the fact that they keep appearing unexpectedly that is freaking me out. I don't want to do laundry or look in to Amazon boxes any more!

You should contact the company that company that sent the package. I once had furniture delivered and apparently it was shipped from another country. There were spiders or spider webs throughout the package. I promptly sent it back and vowed to never order furniture online again. Ugh!

I saw a bunch right outside my garage. No sure what type of bugs these are...not carpet beetles. Not tent caterpillars. Maybe cutworms? But these look skinnier and darker than the pictures of cutworms. These are small, around 1/4 inch and they like to curl up into a c shape. Anyone else experiencing this?

Op here. I don't think fumigation is called for. It seems like these are mainly from the outside. I have to say, all my googling of "brown fuzzy caterpillars and worms" are exposing me to wayyy too many closeup pictures of various creepy crawlies.

You need to seal all homes and fumigate your home
