I'm not sure what you meant by saying "but we are white". There are a lot of kids with those fantastic stats that did not get in. Harvard's freshman class is 11.6% black, which almost proportional to the black percentage of the general populations (13%). Of those blacks admitted to Harvard, it's not exactly like they had 2.0 GPAs and 1300 SAT scores. They had scores/activities commiserate with being admitted to Harvard. In fact, the percentage of legacy admits (13%) is greater than the amount of black admits. I'm not sure why you're not as worried about that group. Well over 64% of the freshman class is white. There are more than enough seats for your child.


An URM with those stats would have gotten in.

I'm sure there are a lot of Asian kids that also did not get in with those stats. In fact, whites are on the receiving end of affirmative action in this case. There is a cap on Asian students. So some white child probably took some more deserving Asian kid's seat. I say all of this to say that Harvard is a crapshoot. Stop blaming other races for why you didn't get in.

The grades and scores are pretty good in my book but not realistic for Harvard. Try some public Ivy's and selective liberal arts.

Harvard receives tens of thousands of well-qualified applications, and accepts 5% of them. Almost everyone of those applicants has outstanding grades and scores. So, no, your above average student will not get in. It does not matter if he has "great" ECs, for everybody, and especially for a not-so-perfect student, you need to have world-class ECs to differentiate yourself from the scores of others who all look exactly the same on paper.
