A trip to Japan in business class WILL get you Gold on American. With the bonuses this year, it will get you close to platinum. Add in a few domestic trips, and you're there.

Those flights are not going to get you status.

I would fly Jet Blue to Boston and Orlando and then figure out the best prices on the rest. But UAL does fly direct to Tokyo out of Dulles.

American. Easiest to obtain status on especially with a trip overseas (no minimum spend requirement).

If you don't care about status and didn't hate United, stick with them.

I have had status on United for years, but I didn't travel enough last year to get any status. That means I am a free agent.

What airline would you pick if you were traveling to the following places within the same year:

San Francisco (at least twice)
Boston (at least once)
Orlando (at least once)
Possible trip to Japan
