If you decide to go, I strongly recommend against taking DD. At some schools, they ask the kids to sign in and have packages for them. At my kid's school, they grouP the kids and send them out to an activity. To protect her feelings, I wouldn't take her. As an alternative, you could get a friend to fill you in.

Going to the orientation doesn't mean the child will attend even if they received placement. Our orientation is tomorrow, and we have not decided whether child will be going to center or not. So the poster could honestly respond 'I'm not sure' and leave it at that.
Also it appears that not all orientations are for the kids as our notice said orientation was for parents only.---plus its at 10am so that in itself isnt encouraging kids to attend
This is different for us. Our base school is the center. If we saw a classmate there, then we would assume the child was in and would be attending AAP at the base/center school since the other option would be no AAP at all. I would have absolutely said to my child that maybe x will be in your class next year.

Of course you can attend! It's just information, and as several people have said, some that attend are still on the fence, and may not even end up there next year. We saw a couple of kids who never attended the center. People change their minds, people move, or just want to get more detailed info. No harm at all.

Of course you can attend. They don't deny people the right to sit in a gym/cafeteria/library and listen to a presentation. You may have to sign in, but that's the extent of attendance taking.

Honestly, the orientation is really to see who else your DC may be attending school with. So if you are not officially in, may be odd as all the accepted kids will have a name tag. I don't recall learning about the school that I didn't already know.

I would say no, as currently under appeal doesn't guarantee admission. It would logically be the same as a non-admitted parent/student attending.

My first got in on appeal. During the last week of school, we contacted the Principal and she graciously gave us a tour of the school.
I don't think it really matters. The orientation doesn't have a lot of value as far as I can tell. However, the Principal being willing to take the time to show us around and answer questions meant a lot to our family. Now it is years later and we know that she is excellent everyday.

Our orientation was largely a presentation in the cafeteria, along with a tour for the kids. Although personalized packets were distributed to admitted families, it would not have been a problem for anyone to attend the presentation for the sake of information. Though I suppose there is the potential for awkwardness.

I, personally, wouldn't. I haven't seen any of the families who appealed and then later got in at our orientations. (I've been to one for my own kid and then have volunteered to assist with the orientations 2 other years. Of course, I don't know or see everyone, so perhaps they are there. Is there someone you could ask who could instead take notes? That's what a friend asked me to do (but her kid wasn't admitted that year, even on appeal.)
