Note that the School Board would still need to vote on this before it took effect and, depending on the number of students involved, there might need to be a formal boundary study. In any event, FCPS Staff has not suggested it would occur before the fall of 2018. Only the planning (or "scoping") for a change is proposed to start in the 2017-18 school year.

The CIP clearly notes the move of MWES and OES kids from Jackson to Thoreau. It's proposed for 2017 school year. So NEXT school year, not the one coming up.

A few facts:

1. If your kid is Jackson/Oakton, the proposal for Thoreau id for ALL Mosby woods and Oakton elem kids who go to OHS to move to Thoreau! Everyone moves not just AAP kids.

2. My DD is in AAP at Jackson and knows of, they aren't her "friends", 3 girls who are sexually active. All 3 girls are in AAP!!!

3. My DD has friends from AAP and monAAP. She says the only difference is the way the kids learn.

4. If you moved away and your kid never attended, I question the relevancy of your reply.

I thought this was the point of renovating Thoreau -- so that its capacity will be around 1200/1300 rather than 950. Maybe I just read it in the CIP and assumed it was confirmed. The renovation of Thoreau was clearly linked to bringing back the AAP kids and reducing overcrowding at Jackson. What are they saying at Thoreau?

Yes, I know Jackson is the center now for the Madison and some Oakton kids, but that will change in 2017 when the Madison/Oakton AAP kids go to Thoreau -- which could have a negative impact on Jackson's overall ratings/scores. Can you speak to the non-AAP experience at Jackson?

This was proposed, but is not official and I thought it was not recommended by aapac.

PP with 8th grade DD, I'm very sorry to hear about her experiences there. I hope she's doing alright now. Was the administration involved? If so, we're they helpful?

AAP kids-- and concerned enough that we moved from a Jackson/ Oakton.

If you are zoned for Jackson MS and Oakton HS, are your concerned about over-crowding?

If your child is not in AAP (therefore not going to Thoreau for AAP in the future), are you concerned about the high percentage of needy kids in Jackson -- and any effects from the AAP kids moving out?

What is Jackson like for non-ESOL, non-Farms, non-AAP kids? Are they lost somewhere between the needy and the "gifted"?
