Can't do mommy and me classes if you have two - what do you do with the older toddler?
Also, meeting people at playgrounds only work if you go on same day same time every day. Not easy to do if you work.
I disagree and do not think it attracted overly neurotic types. I do think it attracted people who do not have family or peers with kids or young babies. It is a good support system if you have no other support.

I did not need it because it winds up everyone from my first PACE group had second kids around the same time. I think it would be worth it if you did not do it the first time.

In addition to what PP said, I'll add that it was absolutely the best thing I did for myself and my baby (and husband!) in those early months. I learned so much and got so much support. Our group created a FB page and we constantly ask each other questions and help each other out. It's amazing to have friends who have babies the same age as mine.

PACE is an organization that has groups of 12 first time moms very soon after they've had the baby. It's 7 weekly classes on a topic where you talk about how your week has been, any issues that you're dealing with, and a topic like sleeping or eating. Then they have one time where the dads come too. They have them all over DC, MD, and VA for first time moms but there's only one location for 2nd time moms. It's a great thing to do on maternity leave. I didn't have any friends with kids around the same age, so this is how I met them. We get together a couple of times a year, but my group actually kind of fizzled out. Other groups still get together 5, 10 years later.

OP have you checked out meetup for Moms groups?
I found one in Moco that I love, Its the best $25 ive ever spent.

I work full time but do shift work so do stuff with them on my off days, We do have a couple of other working Moms too.

Do they try to match people from the same geographic area? It would be difficult to stay friends with someone who lives in Gaithersburg when I live in Falls Church, for example -- that's a 45 minute drive!

It sounds like you're a SAHM. This is much more difficult for a WOHM, unfortunately

I did pace for both my kids and still friend switch both groups. Kay is the leader for the pace 2 group in Chevy chase and is wonderful. I would do it if you can.

It's because the friends you make in Pace are basically still your friends when you have baby #2. I'm guessing that's why there isn't PACE round 2.

Do you have a neighborhood list serve? Parks and Rec groups?

Me too!! The only problem I see with the 2nd time group is that it is only in one location - in Maryland, and I live in Virginia.

Has anyone done PACE for the second baby? I didn't end up going through the program the first time because of timing, but now I'm feeling a little lonely and would like to meet other moms who live near me and give LO #2 the chance to have "friends" of his/her own. Any thoughts/experiences?
