We can afford to move. Our current house is about 900k. We have about 1 million in savings. It would either wipe us out or we could keep some cash and get a mortgage. Have a high HHI so we could easily replenish our savings. We're in our mid 30's.

OP here. I already feel like our class sizes are too big at 26-28 kids per class. I have read on here about overcrowded schools and trailers in Mclean.


Large class sizes the norm in FCPS. If you want smaller classes, APS.

It does bother me that the parents don't seem very involved. School events are not well attended.

Schools are important to some families, but they aren't as important to every family. McLean is very expensive, but if you care about schools you can't do much better than the McLean and Langley pyramids.

there are plenty of more reasonably priced school districts that have better high schools than Edison and are more affordable than McLean. Lake Braddock district, South Lakes and Oakton spring to mind.


DH does not want to move further out, only closer to DC. I love the Oakton area. I believe you have get on 66 though.


McLean is much more convenient to DC than Oakton, at least if you're inside or near the Beltway.
