I think you can just share the playlist. You can gift music in iTunes, though. Haven't done it but I've seen it as an option.

I wanted to do this as a baby present for my niece and wasn't sure how. Does spotify allow you to gift them the digital files, or just share the playlist?

I think it's easy to share a playlist on apple products. You can give the gift card so the person can download the songs as a gift.

You can make shareable playlists on services like Spotify.

I'm old. When I was in my teens/20s, if I wanted my boyfriend or brother to experience the joy of a specific artist, I'd buy the CD (cassette 
) for him. If I wanted to share a "mood" (sexy, kegger, etc), I'd make a mixtape.
How does that work now in 2016? How do I convey very specific songs so someone else can listen to those songs, in that order?
