Subject: This bothers me..
OP - what is your base school. If you are so concerned about getting into Ivys and the bloated reputation of TJ, then you must know your base school's general college acceptances. Does it even compare?

?? For one high school to have 10 kids accepted at MIT is amazing. That's the highest number MIT accepted from any one high school. And that is down a bit from previous years.

Are you kidding me? 17- Berkley, 26- UNC Chapel Hill, 29- Cornell, 16- U. Of Chicago, 17- Duke...the list goes on and on, and you think that a base school can even compare?
The article did not list the schools that accepted number less than 10. They are top top schools such as Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, just names a few.
Yes, list does not show if college accepted less than 10. But, totally agree, you are insane if you think any other school in FCPS compares to this list of acceptances. Sure, you have a few here and there accepted to Ivys at the base school. But, damn. I would take a "disappointing" school like Cornell or Univ. of Chicago any day of the week. LOL

NP here. IMO this should be the only reason a kid chooses to go to TJ. As a magnet school it was designed for students who want to go deeply into math and science and care more about learning for learning's sake. Amassing a really good resume for college can be and sometimes is a side benefit, but this shouldn't be the main reason a kid chooses to go there.

I'm sure TJ students would like for TJ to open up even more doors for them, but the TJ acceptances are far beyond what you'd see at any non-magnet public school in the DC area. If TJ students really think they'd fare better at their base school, they can give someone else their slots.

We couldn't afford out of state and are not interested in her burdening herself with loans for that. Out in-state schools are great.
