It completely sucks. It's not a question of not believing their schedules. They make the best plan they can and then sometimes shit happens.

People have wildly unrealistic expectations about this kind of thing. I would hate to be a school administrator dealing with the parents on this stuff.

With Discovery, didn't APS make something happen over the summer to force construction to at least get to occupancy because the kids were coming? Why can't they do that at McKinley?

No, APS just pretends they don't happen.

What does this mean?

+1

Should they say "opening fall of 2016 or 2017"??

Anyone who has ever had a construction project understands the possibility of delays. Do you want it communicated differently for people who don't realize this?

Why aren't they delaying the boundary changes? I thought those were only happening because the one school was getting an addition. Surely Tuckahoe won't be at 700 kids if they planning units don't move for 1 more year.

Wish these stupid places could have been built vertically. So little foresight.

APS is Field of Dreams in reverse. "If they come, we won't build it."

I'd like to see the projects for south of Rt 50 move ahead on time. I think all this time is being wasted.

Are other school systems as bad at this? The update on McKinley is that they are months behind. The addition that is supposed to help facilitate the boundary change won't be done for at least an entire semester. So, APS will be bringing back the trailers that were just removed last month so they can put 711 kids into a school that won't even have a gym (again!). How does this happen?

Discovery opened on time. There were a number of punch list items however. I thought Ashlawn also opened on time. Don't know about McKinley. The high school projects all opened on time. With all the construction projects maybe APS needs to hire more staff.

Ashlawn opened, but they weren't anywhere near done. The construction equipment didn't leave the site until a year after projections.

Discovery opened, but the punch list was huge. The library wasn't anywhere near finished.

McKinley won't even open! It's one thing to have cosmetic work needed, but they won't even have seats. The fact that they are pushing through with the boundary changes instead of delaying a year shows pure incompetence on the part of APS staff.

Such a weird school system. Their website looks like it's from 1999.

How can anyone ever be surprised when construction doesn't run on schedule?
