It helps some kids and not others. ASD is a group of disorders that have some similarities (lots of micromutations in the genes), but genetic tests shows a lot of variations in the mutations between kids, even kids in the same family.

Well, my ASD child only consumes dairy (in the form of endless yogurt), gluten (pretty much in any form), and soy milk. So I think she'd starve if on this diet.
Luckily, though, she continues to make strong progress.

The diet's never been tested for kids with ASD or ADHD. I know a few families who follow it and feel it makes a difference. Many more who tried it longterm and didn't see any improvements.
However, if you're feeling adventurous, try it for two weeks. If you don't see a difference in behavior then don't bother.

No, NIHA is a practice in Friendship Heights/Chevy Chase area. I don't know the name of the test but it was a blood allergy test.

Your regular pediatrician may order the blood test for you. We went through a doctor at NIHA but our regular pediatrician was willing to order the same thing and actually spent about 15 minutes on the phone with us going through the results.

I recommend getting the blood test done to determine if your child has any allergies.
My son is on this diet and it does help.. Nobody ever told us to get the blood test though and after we did the test we realized that he is allergic to wheat and dairy.....

I have a newly-diagnosed child with ASD and am wondering if this diet (dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free) is worth trying. No doctor recommended it to me, but I have heard about it on various websites. I am not sure I could even really do it as DH and my other DC would probably not go along with it.
