If your child is not napping or able to be calm for that time are you sure an high-intensity language immersion is the right choice for your son? I know that sounds snarky, but I speak from (bad) experience.

I know there's a couple of complaints about naps at Lee Montessori, but my child started PK4 at Lee and never had to nap at Lee. She had a history of not napping since age 2 1/2, and through PK3 at a Montessori private. Dropping the nap that early was not healthy, but by PK4 at Lee it was no longer worth trying, and I'm pretty sure my child started the school year (at 4 1/2) directly with the "afternoon kids" (= non-nappers).

Ugh. We are in a DCPS, and we're having the same experience. Forced nap time has made school miserable for my child. WTF is up with labeling non-napping as "bad" behavior?! It's ridiculous that there is no alternative.

Beat in mind if you have a mixed age class they may not be as flexible. My daughter is in a 3s and 4s class at Bridges and nap is 90 minutes. They have forced her to stay in a dark classroom on a mat all year, including punishing her for not being quiet. It's been awful, and she often cries about going to school because she hates nap time so much. T

Because it is statutorily required. If I remember correctly 75 minutes for 3s and 45 for 4s

I am in low teens for LAMB PK4 - this is one of the main reasons I am looking to switch. Not sure why more schools do not allow for non-napping kids.

LAMB PK4 kids after the first couple months of school are allowed to stay in class with the K students if they don't nap.

My daughter is in PK 4 at Janney. They have a short "rest time." Most kids quietly look at books and listen to music. It's just a time to let the brain rest. You don't actually have to sleep. My daughter hasn't napped since about 3.

My 5yo doesn't nap at home but he does almost every day at school. The days he doesn't, he does quiet activities with his teacher.

NAEYC guidelines - which most schools follow even if not certified - are that there is a rest period for PK.

I am mostly interested in Creative Minds. Do they make the non nappers lay down? If not, what do they do? Thanks!

Nap is built into the schedule for all schools. If your kid really won't nap, you can work something out with the teacher. My non-napper, in PK4, spent a lot of time coloring quietly. Sometimes she joined kindergarten for that hour, depending on what they were doing. She was able to color quietly without disturbing other kids or needing a lot of supervision, though, which doesn't apply to all 4 year olds.

Can you save everyone some time and list your schools - every one is different.

My DD hates naps at school. What schools don't make the kids nap and have other activities for them?
We have good wait list numbers for a bunch of schools...
