Just decline and move on with your life, OP. I hate them as much as the next person but I understand that people are broke and must supplement their income. I just say no. It is not worth any more emotion or thought beyond a rejection.

I'd if invited, just for a chance to get out of the house and see people. However, in the past 10 years or so, I have been invited to two such parties. I ended if where one lives influences the number of invites. We are inside the beltway near McLean/North Arlington border.

Yes! I do want to hear this.

They will never, ever respond. Everything they do is scripted, and I guarantee that they're not supposed to do this.

Mannnn.... I really want an MLM AMA. Maybe a former MLM will do one? Someone who has since seen the error of their ways, perhaps?

Someone once told me that it was really a chance to have a party and the sales stuff was just there if we wanted it. Yeah ok. I notice I never get invited to the parties where 1) the husbands attend, and 2) things aren't sold.

I know someone that does this and she has a real job (education system), this is just secondary income for her.

Most of the women I meet who do this have a lot of obligations at home, ie - caring for an ill spouse, do a regular office job isn't practical and/or they never got a formal education so they're not in a position to do much else.

So I don't have the contempt for it that others seem to, but I just ignore. The reality is that I'm never going to buy mangosteen (sp?) juice or magic skin cream, so I don't go to the parties. If they're a real friend, it won't become an issue.

These are practically the only parties I get invited to. What can I say, I'm a pathetic loser! But how about those 'virtual parties' you get invited to on facebook -- from the MLM folks? Now those are truly pathetic!

+1. These are so annoying. I always go just to be nice but feel awkward the whole time and hope my face doesn't give away the fact that I think they're pathetic.

I think these businesses are for people who fall for get-rich-quick schemes.
