I do not believe the Ovidrel shot increases multiples. It just helps the timing get better.

True...you can elect to do a single embryo transfer. The only way you'd get twins in this scenario is if the embryo split. I remember reading recently that a lot of twins/multiples resulting from infertility treatments these days actually comes from IUI or TI with Clomid or injectibles, not from IVF as most people assume. REs are better able to control the number of embryos that may implant through IVF.

OP here. My hormone tests / bloodwork have been fine and my ovaries are responding to clomid. Have not done a dye study on Fallopian tubes. Have a 3.5 year old from clomid, but back then I just wasn't ovulating after the pill and conceived as soon as we "jump started" my ovaries. What tests should I ask for?

+1. Except it took is about 5 tries. Lots of money. But we had tried for over a year and had conceived the first no problem without intervention. They couldn't figure out reason I wasn't getting pregnant.

Anyone converted an IUI to an IVF if there were too many follicles? How many follies would there have to be before you'd do this (35 yrs old, not DOR).

Not that I'm aware of. We moved from unmediated IUI to clomid IUI

I don't want the increased risk of multiples but is there a way to trigger natural ovulation or something else to help with the timing of unmedicated IUI?

Are you doing Ovidrel shot? I think the Monitoring + clomid + ovidrel is what worked for me.

I have a mild case of PCOS (irregular periods, irregular ovulation, tons of follicles, but hormones all normal) and husband's sperm is great. We got pregnant on the 4th IUI (first with injectables) with my first, and just got the call yesterday that our pregnancy test came back positive on the first IUI attempt for our second (went straight to injectables). I'm a big proponent of IUI if you're having trouble conceiving naturally but no big markers pointing to IVF.

Is this under an OB or an RE? Are you being monitored nearly daily during the fertile period? How was your lining, how many follicles did you have, what size, did you use a trigger to help ovulate, did they monitor estrogen and progesterone to make sure you ovulated? I was diagnosed with DOR, and my husband had a great sperm analysis. One closely monitored timed intercourse cycle with clomid and pre-seed and I got pregnant. (lost it, but that's a separate issue.) It all depends on what your issue actually is. If you have a good lining, and you know that you are ovulating with follicles that look good, and you know you are timing it right, then maybe IUI could help.

He could have the world's best sperm but if you aren't timing it just right or your mucus is thick, most of those amazing sperm will never get a chance to swim! IUI could help with that. But I agree with PP, you need testing too....perhaps you've done that already?

Have you had testing done on yourself? There could be issues on your end that would possibly make IUI pointless.

I'm on my 2nd month of clomid so we'll see if it works. My DHs sperm was basically the best for quantity and mobility my doctor has ever seen. I know it's further for them to go, but if his sperm is that amazing I'm skeptical that IUI would make much difference. Anyone out there have good sperm and no luck conceiving and then have luck with IUI? My doctor is letting me call the shots on how aggressive I want to be, but it's a lot of money for a procedure that I don't think will be much different (actually, insurance might cover it, but still...)
