I'm with you OP, my child goes to bed at 7:30 and gets up at 6:00am.

--gyms are not available until later in the evening because schools have after-school activities earlier in the evening.

Because not everyone has a stay at home.mom.(or dad) and most volunteer coaches have day jobs.

Offer to coach a team. Then you can schedule practice when you want to.

If it makes you feel better, we have had earlier practices and they make dinner and homework hard to do, so the kid is up late anyways. Sports seems to mean, up late one night of the week.

How far away are the baseball fields from where you live? They are 5 minutes from our house. Practice over at 8, get packed up and drive home, arrive 8:10. Quick shower before anything else done at 8:17. Eat a snack, done at 8:30 and in bed listening to a story.
I work until 5 and then need to go pick up my kids at aftercare center then take them to their activity. I prefer practices start at or after 6.

I'm with you OP. We chose not to do basketball this year for our first grader because I'm just not OK with him being out and up that late.

I know, it's insane. Some kids can handle it, some (like mine) cannot.

I am going to assume that the coach has to work. And wanted to give people a chance to eat dinner following work. When I coached high school, I had to work until 5pm. I started practice at 5:30 through 7:30pm. I had parents calling me and complaining that it was dinner time.

It probably has to do with space availability. If your son can't function well going to bed at 9pm then you should skip it this year.

Um, maybe because the coach is a volunteer who actually has to work for a living. They can only apply for so many fields and have to get what you get. Instead of complaining here, why don't you start your own soccer team so they go by your rules.

One night week he will be fine. later is better, we had 6-730 and that was a pain. I'd rather later so homework, dinner, chill time can all be completed.

Why does he need a snack after practice?

We just got our 1st graders baseball schedule and it is meeting on a weeknight until 8:00pm. Which means that after driving home, snack, and bath that he won't be in bed until 9:00 at best. Don't they know these kids need to be up for school? So annoyed.
