Give me a break on the plantation vibe. There were plenty of AA workers and hotel stayers.
OP, you need a room number to order anything from the wondering staff at the pool area. They wouldn't be able to pay in cash. I can't remember if they had anything else although I do remember having to use room keys to get in and out of doors and some gates. They have a small town across the street so it isn't like it is in the middle of nowhere. I think they are on the look-out for hanger-ons.

Ya know, a lot of those black people are Jamaicans that choose to come to the US to make better wages. Bath county has a limited population supply to staff the hotel, so it's a win win for all.

We stay there all the time (missing the black men as bellhops though -- since the Omni took over the place has changed a lot). I haven't had anyone stay off property and use water park. But you just sign in quickly when entering. There really isn't any questioning or checking of ID.

I went and it was lovely. But I did feel uncomfortable about the old black men working so hard as bell hops ... sort of a plantation feel. Not sure about your water park question.
