OP, you were lucky. End of story. There are quite a few kids who would do great at a HGC, who don't get in. And, it can be very frustrating. Completely understandable that it's something that parents would spend some time worrying about.

You are lucky.

Not because your child was accepted (congratulations!).

But because your child is such that you are NOT worried.

Please understand that not all of us have the luxury of feeling this way. Our children are twice exceptional (it's a real term: gifted with learning disabilities), or for some reason have brains that do not adapt well to conventional instruction.

My point is that many times parents' worries are LEGITIMATE.
Don't disrespect us by being condescending please.

That being said, to counteract the general attitude on this board, we were just pleasantly surprised. We would not have done anything to appeal if she didn't get selected. We would not have worried about privates, or if she would be sufficiently challenged, etc. I admit I was anxious for the results, but not really any more so than for selection to a travel sports team, accelerated academics, or any other competition regarding merit.

Bright children are bright no matter what. HGC admission is not a final determination of your child's intelligence or life opportunity. It is just one thing out of many. Relax.
