April vacation is too late for skiing. First world problem I know but it makes me miss the week we had off in February growing up in New England!

As the parent of a high school student I dislike the April spring breaks. The AP exams are always in early May and I'd prefer not to lose instructional days so close to those tests.

Aligning to Emancipation Day makes it more predictable since the religious holidays shift from year to year.

Since Emancipatuon Day must be a day off they probably think it is better to include that day in spring break rather than give another stand alone day off.

So, are they determined to make Emancipation Day the driving factor? Passover is the week before.

It's aligned with Emancipation Day. The theory is that it will be the same week every year rather than aligned with Easter.

I happen to like it, but a lot of people don't. Which will soon be evident in the comments that follow.

PP above you...and we're both right! Consider the debate on hiatus until next year. ?

I don't celebrate easter and I think it's too late.

I also thought that week was crazy! Three day weekend. Two days of school. Half Day. Three day weekend!

That is a crazy week. I wonder how theachers feel about PD days tied to long weekends - not like they can ever take off early and actually enjoy a holiday, can they?

It's tied to Easter, which pleases a large majority of the DCPS population (my family included).

They've always done half days at the end of the term, which I hate. So I like that they are adding PD to those days and not having school at all. But then it seems like we should get back some of that time (since the PD isn't taking up another day) and end earlier, but I don't see that.

Did anyone else notice that it appears the calendar for next year has been finalized?
