Mary Washington. Definitely check it out. My sister graduated in 2008 and she loved her time there.

A lot overlap between Sewanee and W&L. They are both Southern - W&L much more conservative. Sewanee is probably has more representation from states south of the Mason-Dixon line.

College of Charleston. Ohio Wesleyan. Rhodes (esp. if you are Christian). The Minnesota schools: Macalester, Carleton, Gustavus Adolphus (slightly more liberal). Wabash (if you're male). Gettysburg (slightly less selective).

Elon, if you are looking for a lot less selective (the schools I mentioned above are pretty selective).

Not sure about the rest of your list (no personal experience) but the above are NOT good choices for someone who wants a preppy, fratty, conservative type school. I went to Carleton, have a kid at Mac, and have lots of friends/relatives who attended Gustavus Adolphus and they are all very liberal, intellectual, kind of hipster-y type places. In fact, I'd suggest these three schools to someone who absolutely DOESN'T want a school at all like W&L.

Carleton and Mac are also among the most selective liberal arts colleges in the nation (Gustavus Adolphus less so), comparable to or even more selective than W&L.

Another Carleton alum here and I laughed when I saw Carleton on the list. I don't think Paleocon will be comfortable in the school that birthed the late Paul Wellstone. Carleton is also pretty unpreppy, although I was comfortable there in my green wide wale cords and whale print belts.

Mary Washington, Longwood, Radford, and Randolph Macon have next to no similarities to W&L. University of Richmond would be closer in the preppy, private vibe but still not a W&L comp

Um, isn't the combination of all the things you like about W&L what makes it able to be selective? People like the things it's offering, so they have lots of applicants, so they can choose the best ones.

Radford and W&L are nowhere close to the similar.

What colleges are similar to W&L in size, strong academics, campus vibe, and student body bit not as selective.
