Agree with 12:59. In my child's class, some of smartest kids went to Wilson. For kids who opted not to, turned on extra curriculars, where friends went, whether student wanted a smaller school or smaller class sizes, and just family preference.

+1. I've had kids at both. They are very different schools and it really depends on what your child wants. A lot of the ECs my DC was interested in were at Wilson, along with the fact that most of dc's friends went there. Definitely bright kids at both. I would absolute disagree that the brightest deal kids only go private or to SWW or Banneker.

Agree it all depends on best fit. I know several amazing kids who've graduated from Wilson and had their pick of top colleges and universities. Your kid needs to be a self-starter to thrive there.

DC is unlikely to get all As at SWW. High rigor but it also has lots of projects and other hw. I don't think this makes sww better. Just letting you know what you are in for there

My dd chose Wilson over Walls for various reasons. She never had a grade other than an A on any of her Deal report cards-all 3 years. She is doing very well at Wilson.

Her extended group of friends, all high achieving, mostly chose Wilson. Two who went to SWW and one friend went to GDS. One of the SWW kids is now at Wilson-SWW was too small.

This year's seniors (many Deal graduates) have lots of acceptances to excellent schools, top ivies included.

I disagree regarding the best students opting for private and I say this as the mother of a child who chose private over Wilson or Walls.

National Merit Semifinalists for the 2016 competition year were announced in September. Wilson and SWW have 2 each. The year before, each had one top scorer. The year before that, SWW had 4 and Wilson had 3. (DC has the highest cutoff score in the nation).

About 2/3 of Deal kids continue to Wilson, there are a whole lot more than 1/3 advanced kids at Deal. Looking at the advanced kids at Wilson should tell you what you want to know. It's about 50/50 at Wilson.

Hi, after a so and so experience in a non-DCPS middle school, we are planning on returning to DCPS for high school.

Our son has high chances of being accepted at SWW, but would prefer Wilson for several reasons, which include proximity to our apartment (5 minute bike ride from Wilson) . Our neighbors and several friends are telling us that all or almost all the advanced and best students at Deal, who stay in DCPS, opt for SWW or Banneker. Those who do not make it (or do not even try) for test-in schools move onto Wilson.

Can someone share with me their informed knowledge on this issue? Is it true that none/almost none of those who have access to SWW/Banneker will opt for Wilson?
