I agree. If he's anything like my husband it will be hard to change his mind. Why does he feel so strongly and why are you in disagreement? Do you feel his choice is a bad fit for your child? Did you know this going in?

Yes, pay 2 deposits OP so you have time to decide. Just don't discuss it with friends. That might hurt feelings of someone who didn't get in anywhere.

If it's just to extend the staring contest between you and your husband, that seems unproductive for you, and harmful to other students on the WL.

You made a decision and I assume it was after a good deal of research and discussion. Show some leadership to your DC and stop the "wondering" game. Move confidently in the direction your family has chosen. This is a great opportunity to model confidence for your child. There is not one "perfect"'place and it will help your child be confident in their own decisions going forward when they see you take this attitude as opposed to the uncertainty you're modeling now.


No that's a total asshole comment. No help to anyone. There are many gradations within decision making, especially with something so important as your child's education. Its not like you're choosing between lawn mowers.


It's also not like you're choosing between Harvard and community college.

For pete's sake, grow up, act like an adult, and make a decision. Then move on. I agree that all this angst is poor role modeling for your kids.

If you need more time, you need more time. And if you can afford the deposits, then it seems doable. That being said, there is a real effect of your lack of decision which is that some family may not be able to get into a school that their child really wants as a first choice. And will the extra time really resolve the impasse that you and your husband are having or will you simply run out of time and be forced into a decision--similar to what would happen if you made a choice on the 14th? It's really about what you feel comfortable doing but yes, you are impacting another family in a negative way. Not making a judgment but just reaffirming what you already know.

Is it a terrible idea to pay two deposits, just to buy some more time, since contracts are not binding until June? I know this is extending the wait time for folks on the waitlist, which is not a good thing. But I honestly don't now how are going to decide by the 14th.

Anyone else made this choice? How did it work out? Should we just make the call and be done with it?
