I don't think so. DC has five EA choices but won't be making a decision until RDs coming in April lst. I don't think many kids at his school have locked down their EA school so the same degree of maturation has been hit whether by EA or RD.

It's too bad no one revisits each class a year later. It would be interesting to see where the Class of 2016 is in a year. My 2016 grad loves his choice. Haven't heard from anyone in his class that hasn't been pleased.

I don't think it's much different than it has always been. Among my family and friends from high school, college, and adulthood, I know (or know of) many people who dropped out of college, transferred, took time off for academic/health/mental health reasons, etc. As you said, it's a time of great change.

My kid is in her second year at a giant OOS research university and she is loving it. Then again, she has known for a long time what her major would be and this school has a large program for a major few people pursue. I think being involved with a lot of outside but related activities is what has really helped my DD embrace her school. Her GC at her school had already determined which school acceptance she was going with so this pick was a huge shock but I think you really have to trust your kid's judgement on this topic. If you pick the school there is a much higher chance of dissatisfaction I think.

My kid applied to 7 schools EA and 2 RD. Admitted to all the EA schools, some with large merit aid awards. Two of these are top choices. Still waiting to hear from the RD schools, but given other options, now only interested in one of them. I'm guessing a decision won't be made until April 30, LOL.

We've had a good run at it but DS prepped all summer so was ready to go with rolling admissions (Penn State) safety first, then two Honors tech universities on Oct. 15th, then UVA and a SCEA on Nov. lst. He got into every school he applied to, including UVA early action, and is now waiting for the real reaches on March 31/April lst. I strongly urge you to go with EA, ED or SCEA and work out a plan this summer. The VA schools can't be beat for value. For some peculiar reason Va Tech is ED (binding) but UVA is not, so plan on getting the UVA application in early. Go to collegeconfidential.com and read "University of Virginia EA 2020" and you will get a sense of what type of kid gets in and what type (statistics) is deferred or denied.

My senior has heard from all of the public schools to which he applied and from Case Western and Wash U in STL. The other privates have not yet issued their decisions, but all plan to do so by 4/1/16.

The college counselor at my DDs school mentioned that this time of the year is slow in regards to hearing from colleges. They are all busy going over apps, reading essays, etc. She stated that in about 2-3 weeks there will be tears of joy and sadness as decisions start pouring in.

Feels that way every year, especially for the parents of seniors.
