I think this is happening to me. I am 39 and just finished my first cycle off the Pill in a while, in preparation for TTC a second kid. My period started on time but ended after only 4 days. While I was on the Pill, my period had been starting later and later (3 to 4 days into the placebo week) and lasting only 5 or 6 days.

Yes - it happens as you get older (and to me too), but with IVF they are totally controlling your hormones, and therefore your uterine lining, bleeding timing, ovulation (or prevention of ovulation) etc....

just mention it to your RE but if your work up was normal i really wouldn't worry about it.

This is happening to me now. I just turned 39 and my cycle was always 31 days. At 35 it started to get shorter to 28 days (but I was able to get pregnant after this started) and then in the last couple years it has gone from 26 to 24 days. I'm not TTC anymore but just wanted to share my experience. I very much dislike getting my period this often though! Due to see my gynecologist soon and I was planning on pointing this out to her and see what she says.

Reupping this to see if others have experienced shorter menstrual cycles in their late 30s/early 40s. I used to have 28 day cycles like clockwork but since around the time I had my first DC at age 36 they're more erratic in length and lately more consistently shorter (22 days for the last two). Does this happen as we age? (I am turning 40 next month). What does it mean, if anything, beyond that? We're hoping IVF will give us a chance at a second DC. Thanks!

I believe you are asking about regular menstrual cycle not the cycle under/after the medicated cycle, correct?

My regular mens cycle became somewhat shorter starting around age 35. Mine used to be like 6 days with heavy flow day1 to day3, thereafter light bleeding until day6. The amount/volume of clot like discharge on the pad was heavier during the first 2 days, etc..

That all changed past age 35. The bleeding became lighter after day3, volume of clot decreased significantly, now the total duration is like 4 to 5 days.

But, I had success at late 30s still gearing toward sibling at age 40+. So, even though your mens cycle may not behave like that of younger self, IVF protocols supersedes these?
Good luck!

I haven't experienced this, but with fertility treatment they manipulate everything so the length shouldn't matter.

I'm 38 and soon to be starting treatment (diagnosed with borderline DOR).

Lately my cycles have shortened from normal 28 days to 25 days. Additionally my flow is very light--my period is done at the end of day 3. Normal flow used to be 5 days. Does anyone know what this could mean?

My hormone testing as part of my fertility workup was all normal but I'm worried that once I start treatment it won't work due to my shorter cycles/light flow. I'm not sure what the implications are of this on infertility treatment.
