This. Life changing for DS and our entire family dynamic. The other thing that was extremely helpful was behavioral therapy, which we did before meds. It really taught DH and I how to better handle his defiance. We started meds after it was clear that the methods we learned in therapy couldn't correct his inability to control his body, mouth, etc. We started meds a couple months after 5.

Same here - except now he's a teenager and I want to kill him.

Lots of outdoor play with nothing but sticks, rocks. Not necessarily playgrounds or toys. See the blog 1000 hours outside.

I think type of exercise can matter. Running around like crazy can be amp-ing. Swinging can be calming, or athletic activity that is more directed, like bike riding, push ups, etc--anything where body control is important.
I think t depends on the kid but random running was also not really helpful for my kid.
