Do you support funding for Israel?

I DONT WANT to pay for these. Here's what I'll say. If you want public education and welfare, personally donate your money to the government, so they can specifically use it on this. You have NO RIGHT to use my money for these things.

Living in a civil society, we have decided to provide welfare to citizens who need it. We do it partly out of charity and partly because we would feel bad to have people starve and die in the streets. We would no longer feel prosperous as a nation if that happened. We have public education as a foundation of our democratic form of governance, which you know because you've learned this in school.

Well, I'll help the poor on my own, and wth MY own money. The government has no right to TAKE my money and use it for that purpose. If you want to help them, help them yourself. I attend private school. Public schools are a joke.

The colleges you hope to get into are also a joke.

So you'd prefer to have masses of uneducated, starving people - including children - cluttering up the streets? Think of it as an investment into our society and the future.

Sigh ...

Public Schools benefit society by providing common literacy in math, engineering, language, medicine, etc. You probably have benefitted from public schools by utilizing the skills and knowledge of former graduates...maybe a book you read, a car you drove, or a pill you took all helped you and all of society. With less education available, there is less of this stuff.

Welfare can be thought of as social insurance. Providing some level of insurance allows people to take risks to make themselves better society better. It also allows people to survive while they better themselves. Think of poor children who can focus on education, rather than on stealing their food.

I think society is better off with these things. We have many benefits from public education. The post-WWII GI bill is credited with a lot of growth in America. I think crime and distrust will rise without public education and welfare.

Of course, you are likely to find freeloaders everywhere and I am sure you will respond with some answers. There is no perfect answer.

For me, though, this is a moral issue. I prefer a well-educated and well-fed happy society, so I am willing to pay for it.

You missed my point. The only way we get to choose which things our tax money (or rather, my tax money, since I don't think you've actually paid any taxes yet) is by voting. There's no line item veto on the Form 1040.

And I'm sure if you were old enough to be paying attention in 2000, you would have liked Bush just fine.

Not sure how "don't marry a gay person if you aren't gay" is analogous to "don't pay taxes" but ... Whatever you say. I'm sure our country would be super amazing if no one went to school.

There are thankfully many countries in this world. If Hillary wins, I'm moving to Russia, Hungary, or Northern Ireland.

You've been lucky to grow up in a very privileged environment, OP. You take much for granted. You have no clue what your fellow Americans have to deal with.

One could be gracious and excuse your naivete and ignorance due to your inexperience.

Have a nice night.
