He is trying to "buy" the attention of his friends and a fun party at school.

Let's face it, he wouldn't do it if there wasn't a pizza party and hoopla involved, correct?

Can you tell him there's a cap on donations? Like ea kid shouldn't exceed more than $X.00 in each class?

My son donated like $20 last year -- not for a party but for the charity. But it irked me about the pressure from the school; I'd rather he donated through his own ideas rather than whatever charity the school chooses.

Consequences for lying but it IS really sweet of him to try and win a party.

I think it's nice that he is donating his money, especially knowing that he is not necessarily going to get the pizza party. I think I'd give him a pass on the lying, but talk to him about it.

I would take a different tack if I thought that he lacked the capacity to understand what he was doing, or the consequences. (Like if he became very upset about not getting the pizza party last year, or something like that.) I would htink that most 6th graders would understand what they are doing, but of course all children are different.

Punish him for the lying. But if he did the same thing last year, I assume he knows the consequences of this (I.e. He won't have money for other things) so I'd let him choose what he wants to do with his money.

Now if last year there were issues (Complaining about having no money, not understanding the concept of spending/saving) I'd have a talk with him about that

I'd punish him for lying but money is his money. you can talk to him but, i'd say it's his call.

I forgot to mention the teacher is giving the money back to me.

Lesson learned the next time he wants to buy a toy with that money.

What would you do in this situation because whatever hubby and I did last year did not work. School encourages kids to bring in money for Pennies for Patients. So, what does my kid do? Takes in $100 from his allowance savings so his class can possibly win a pizza party. He did the same thing last year! Both times the teacher has emailed me questioning the amount of money he is donating. He LIED to the teacher saying I said it was ok. He never ran this past me. What would you do?
