It really isn't dismissing the importance if the students are only pre-committed. If you feel it makes a difference than maybe SR isn't the school for your daughter if the reception is the deal breaker. I am sure they have a waiting list of girls to fill your daughter's spot who would accept school despite the fact she wasn't a first choice. I think the behavior of the parents on this forum who are upset with quality or lack there of entertainment for pre-committed students, is a great petri dish of an example of parents the school made a mistake in accepting in the admissions process.

It seems to me there are several people who would be more than happy to take your spot if that is a dealbreaker for you!

As noted NCS does have them (or will).

That said, so many of these schools focus their acceptances on families that pre-commit to going ("you're our #1 choice!") that it may not be meangingful; mix in that a lot of people don't get into more than 1 or 2 anyway, so it's not a real "choice"

I don't know what you are talking about. NCS had one today because I attended it. DD got to go around to classes with a current student and I got to go to classes as well. It was a unique view of the school. Very impressive.

At Stone Ridge they definitely have one for US admitted students. And for LS/MS, as a PP said, there's a very nice event for the newly enrolled families. Perhaps it's because the numbers are small -- there are only a handful of new families per grade coming in at other years?

I would caution you against using this one issue as your deciding factor- if you have questions yet to be answered, call admissions and talk w/ them. Tell and ask all you like. BUt to not chose a school based on this one admissions event or not, seems like a somewhat petty way to make a decision. It sounds like you have some great options and maybe really having a hard time deciding, so if this is the ONE deciding factor, well it has to be something, but if all things are not equal, try to get more info you seek. Making the decision is hard, think what is best for your child- not long term (don't pick what you think will be best for college career if you have a lower school age child) but really try to think where your child will be happy, challenged, and learn. Take stereotypes out, negative comments out of your head and go with what you feel. Good luck, its not easy

They do a big picnic and liturgy actually but it's in April after you decide to come. It's really nice and you meet your welcome family and the girls meet both returning students and other new girls. Holton doesn't do that, just the short breakfast this week. If you have questions or want to know more you can call and visit again but I'm not sure what the breakfast will help answer that you don't already know. IMO the picnic is much nicer.

A lot of this depends on the grade. We were invited to Holton for Wednesday morning and NCS for Thursday evening.

Stone Ridge did have a prospective new student reception last year.
Are you sure you didn't just miss it?
If you call the director of admissions (Mary Tobias?) I'm sure that you would find that they would live to host your family in some fashion even if you missed the new student reception.
Is there one more open house date soon? If not I'm sure they would still give your family another tour.

Stone Ridge did have a prospective new student reception last year.

Maybe they are unused to or disinterested in this post-acceptance comparison shopping.

They have, during the regular application process, laid out all the information about their schools and attempted to answer all the questions. In their minds, its now time to decide. And please hurry up, because the people on the wait list are anxious to hear.
