My soon to be 8 year old read all the HP books, now onto Septimus Heap series. Also may want to consider the books by 'Lemony Snicket'.

Will turn 8 in May. Alternating between HP (now on boom 6 I think), and the Percy Jackson books. Also loved Narnia and the Secret Garden.
