Subject: Financial Planner Recommendations?
I see many people here say that financial planner is a waste of money. I, however, beg to differ. Me and my husband were always running out of money and couldn't manage our finances well till the time we got a fund manager. It really depends on how your fund manager is. We were lucky that our australian funds management professional was a great one. He advised us with our investments, asset allocations and many more. It was literally like he made our money grow. So, my advice would be, go for a financial planner. Just make sure he has enough experience and has a good name in the market.

Subject: Financial Planner Recommendations?
I'm not the OP but we're thinking of working with a financial planner, not to manage our investments but to help us figure out if our retirement and college savings are on track and to help us with asset allocation and coming up with a rebalancing plan (how and how often). Any recommendations or other advice would be welcomed!

OP, how much do you have in assets? I ask because for most people, a financial planner is going to be a waste of money. It probably makes sense if you have a few million dollars in assets - figuring out tax shelters, loss harvesting, etc.
but if you, like most of us, are dealing in the thousands - hundreds of thousands, just put your money in low-cost index funds. all my family's non-401(k) money is in Vanguard funds. It is nearly impossible to beat the stock market over a 20-30 year time period.

They also love to recommend these massive life insurance policies that you don't need (they they of course make hefty profits selling to you). No thanks. Bogleheads for the win.
