I believe that the "racist" columns referenced in the piece pertained to a well-reasoned column questioning race-based affirmative action and an analytical piece on Christopher Columbus and Columbus Day. Apparently these free speech discussion of ideas were considered "microaggressions" (maybe "macroaggressions") that were too threatening for certain fragile wallflowers who considered their "safe spaces" invaded.
