If you’re near Silver Spring, I highly recommend Masi. It’s a newish company, coach is very very enthusiastic, parents don’t need to help (but do stay to watch) and they take it seriously enough that kids improve a lot though it’s still friendly for the non-athletic types.

Where are you? Normally there are local leagues.

The nice thing about i9 is that it is normally one day a week so it is good for kids who want to try a bunch of different sport to find what they like. We prefer regular rec sports though with a practice, or two, and a game each week.

We did it with my younger kids and weren't that impressed. It seemed pretty disorganized and my kids didn't come away with too many new skills. We're not signing up again,

We had a fine time with it and never had to participate other than cheering for my kid. We did 4 seasons of soccer and 1 season of flag football. We had some amazing coaches and some phone it in.

My kid isn't really athletic and doesn't care about competitive sports - though he enjoys playing on a team. It was a nice balance for a kid who doesn't want multiple practices a week and parents who find it hard to work multiple practices into their schedules.

Now, at 10y, we are moving to recreational soccer.

I agree they harass you. My preschooler is currently doing basketball and DH goes with him - he says it's fine, nothing special.

My son did basketball at 10 years old. I didn't like that for the price, a parent had to take the stats at each game, like turnovers & rebounds for the whole team. The score would have been easier and less of a distraction for the parent from watching/enjoying the game.

We tried i9 when my kids were preschoolers and didn't care for it. It was very expensive and the teams required a lot of parent participating all throughout the practice (i.e. playing catch with your own kid at baseball). Obviously, that will be different with older kids, but the experience turned me off from i9 altogether.

I HATE I-9 sports. It took me at least 3 years to get off their automated "It's time to sign up!" robo calls. We did t-ball (so obviously younger than your group) and it was poorly organized and poorly run. I assume others have a better experience because they are all over the place but I just can't stand them.

Op here again....

Specifically looking at two non-athletic kids, 9 yr old boy (soccer or basketball) and 12 yr. old girl (basketball).

Thx.

Anyone have experience with this? It's obviously a lot more expensive than the rec center or local rec leagues.... what are you getting for the extra price?
