Did any bats take up residence yet? I've heard it hard to get them to come.

We just installed about 2 weeks ago. I haven't seen any yet, but you can't really see in that well. I heard it takes about 2-3 months to get bats, so I'm hoping we have lots when mosquito season starts. I back up to a wooded forest with a stream, so they should get some easy prey here. I'm rooting for them.

We can't spray here (and I don't like the environmental effects of spray) since mosquitoes come from the forest, not really our own property.

I'm pregnant and I'm worried. I am also someone who walks outside my house in the summer and gets at least 2-3 bites. I'm hoping that if it starts popping up, the counties will step up and spray to keep it under control.

I'm thankful I'll be out of the 1st trimester when mosquito season ramps up, but I don't really want to be a test case for what happens if you contract it during your 2nd or 3rd trimester.

I'll wear DEET when I'm outside and do my best to avoid getting bitten. It will be hard with a young toddler to live in doors all summer.

But yes, I'm concerned, and everyone else should be too.

Given the way Fairfax county ignores rabies issues, I would not go this route. On Cape Cod, I would.

The mosquitos that carry Zika bite during the day, not at night- so I would re-think the not going out at night...

It's not just pregnant women. Haven't you seen all the new cases of Guillain Barre? Sudden strokes and paralysis in healthy individuals? It's terrifying too.

This situation is very sad. I know it would be extremely stressful to women who want to be or who are pregnant.

This struck me as a good idea - but I just googled and no. Just no. A bat house full of bats in my backyard is the stuff that nightmares are made of.

We don't ever see them. I know they're there though. Most woods have bats.

I'm guessing as the warm weather approaches, Zika will make its way north. What do people plan to do? Seems like a lot of people are canceling trips and I'm just curious what people will do if it reaches your home area?

For us, we plan to spray and that's about it. We bought our hoUse a year and a half ago and had a pretty big mosquito issue last summer so we were likely going to spray anyways. Just curious after reading the spring break thread.
