Wow. 75% of the kids at Hughes who applied to TJ couldn't get 60/100 questions right on the test and carry a 3.5 GPA? That is an incredibly low standard, especially at an AAP Center. What's up with that?

My DS was at Hughes and said there were about 25 kids, compared to 100+ at the first round test. He felt very confident, but when pressed, I realized he did not mention an important activity. He seemed cool as a cucumber, and now we wait.

Which test site only had 32 kids? Carson also get Franklin and Nysmyth kids and had at least 200.

Why? A child with dyslexia needs spell check but could be exceptionally smart.

^^ For any kid who knows why he wants to go to TJ, these questions shouldn't be a big deal. They can often prove challenging for the parent-pushed kids, however.

The TJ SIS/Essay test people are referring to is the student information sheet where TJ applicants include information about their activities and answer some short essay type questions that attempt to discern their interests and what makes them tick. Much of the SIS used to be part of the regular application that students did at home until admissions staff clued into the fact that PARENTS were often doing these. Very sad. When my son applied years ago, his SIS was filled out in advance and he did a couple of essays the day of the regular admissions test.

You will know when your kid reaches 7th or 8th grade.

No need to worry about that now until your kid is in MS. Plus, you never know if/when TJ admission will change its testing process.

yes glad to put it on side for couple of months!!

It sounds to me like DC did well. He said he in the information he wanted to about extracurriculars, STEM interests, why he felt TJ was a good fit, etc. wasn't pushed for time and had time to go back and edit, and used the entire character count. But TJ is just a crap shoot, so we are trying to put this out of our minds for the next couple of months.

I would be interested to know, how many semifinalists are there this year. There were a ton of kids at DS's test site.

A word of caution about being too specific about questions though. Not all of the kids have taken the SIS yet-- religious and medical accommodations, kids w/IEPs and 504s and kids who were ill today (or "ill" today) haven't gone yet.
