The riptides in that area are no joke. Plant yourself in front of a lifeguard. Otherwise, don't go out past your knees.

That's really helpful. Thanks!

By "built up" i meant more condos than places like Holden Beach or Sunset Beach. Not lots of mini golf. Sorry for the poor choice of words.

I didn't realize it was built-up. The compel threads I could find about it here all seem to say there is very little to do there.

Nobody else that has been there and could jump in?

There are definitely people who read DCUM who go to Emerald Isle. It's more built up that the beaches we prefer (Brunswick County NC), but has a loyal fanbase, if you will. Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, and Beaufort are nearby, as is Jacksonville NC.

We've just booked a beach house on Emerald Isle for a family reunion this June. None of us have ever been before but the beach seems nice, from what we've read online. Has anyone here ever been? Any tips on what to do, where to shop, eat ect. would be very helpful. I understand it's a pretty small and quiet town (which is okay with us) but would be great to get insight or advice from anyone who has been before.
