My Dd's birthday is late November. I didn't hold her back. She wound up also skipping a grade in elementary so graduated at 16.5. Never a problem.

If this is a possibility, I would consider it. The only other reason would be if she is not developmentally ready.

I have a late August boy and am planning to send him on time. I realize he will be in kindergarten with 7 year olds, which is ridiculous, but he is ready to go on time.

I am 12/28 and wish my parents had held me back. I was so late getting my license and so young starting college. In addition I was always the small one. My parents have always regretted it even though I was academically advanced.

Physical size and academic readiness are two completely different things. The question isn't, how big is she? The question is, is she ready for kindergarten? If she's ready for kindergarten, don't hold her back.

Agreed. If you think you might move or go private I'd consider holding. At my kids school MOST of the summer birthdays are held, such that there are only ~2 (always girl) summer birthdays that go on time. My kid is late spring and seems fairly young for her grade - I can't imagine a late Dec birthday in that grade. My other child has a Dec birthday with a 9/1 cutoff and is still middle of the road - lots of her friends are a good 5-6 months older. So if your child would come to her grade in a few years she would be a full 18 months younger than a significant percentage of her classmates.

No, I would not unless I had significant reason to be concerned about her development. Being petite is not a problem.

No, I wouldn't unless there was some sort of concern. I do have a late Dec bday girl but we're in a 9/1 cut off district, so we didn't have this choice. This is fine for her, but she was ready for most of these things last year. Her K is not that different from PreK.
