I often travel with a friend with an ID and have (out of earshot) notified TSA about her ID and have helped us out and treated her like gold.

Call the airline ahead of time and talk to the disabilities coordinator. Ask for an escort from ticketing to the gate. They will ease your pass through. Delta was great about this.

Does anyone have any tips for travelling through airport security with a kid with ASD? TSA is a source of huge anxiety for my DS who has had a couple meltdowns during past trips. He hates to be rushed and wants to do everything himself and something always goes wrong. He otherwise loves travel and the whole plane experience but the security line causes huge stress. Last time he had a meltdown after the security officer made him re-do the screen because he ran too fast and it beeped. They made me restrain him and walk through together and would not just use the wand or pat him down.
