In the summer months there are limited options outside of AAU. Little Legends runs summer leagues where AAU teams join.

KOA is run well and they are becoming more competitive.
MADE uses you to fund their top level teams, same with EBL.
EBL is also very unorganized. Former MD Terp Byron Mouton runs it and he is an organizational disaster. He is also now bringing in kids from Delaware to try and make his teams more competitive.
Skills & Scrimmages is ok but the main guy is overwhelmed and makes too many promises he can't keep.
I have heard good things about MBA (Maryland Basketball Academy).
It all come down to finding the right coach and team with no more then 10 players, 8 or 9 is ideal but tough to find.

MSA and Skills and Scrimmages are good programs as well.

In the district, HoopEd and OneOnOne are good with little kids. HoopEd does a beginner ballers program that's great.

I disagree about staying with very recreational rec programs b/c they often don't teach skills. Learning skills and basic ball movement as a little kid is a huge help if your DC wants to stay with basketball. DC plays on a (bad) school team with a lot of kids who have zero skills and have developed lots of ingrained bad habits.

Yes. It is the same trainers who were great and were also victimized by the poor management. A bunch of parents have jumped int o help the guys and girls get back on their feet. We have been going for about a month now and it has been great. We also did the President's Day camp.

Careful what you wish for. We just wrapped a tournament today. Played 3 games and lost by an average of 40. Beyond humbling and the kids are dejected.

I blame our organization for putting us in tournament where we were clearly over matched.

1st grade is kind of young to be pushing into a more competitive environment. Just continue with a good rec league for the next year or two. You should look for a league or camp that focuses on fundamentals.

Your coach is pushing your family into the tube. Remember, there are always "coaches" who will tell you what you want to hear about your kid. It is a high $$$ proposition for all of the programs and sports.

My first grader plays on a very recreational bb team. The coach said we should consider enrolling him in a camp or league where he'll get more "training because he shows potential." Umm...ok? Where might one find this in down county Mont Co?
