Mount Pleasant is a designated historic district so I can't imagine you can just tear down the house. I have no idea what is going on with the house structurally but that price is super low for the size and the area, so I imagine it must be serious.
I live in the same area of Mount Pleasant as this house and love it. It's very very friendly--people say hi, know their neighbors. Lots of kids. The area is quiet with lots of trees and is very near Rock Creek Park. This house is about 2 blocks away from Bancroft Elementary.
There really are not that many people in the neighborhood with kids who send them to Bancroft. They like the idea of a neighborhood school, but they just can't bring themselves to send their kids to a school with so many FARMS students and so few white kids. People claim things are changing, but the demographic information released by DCPS says otherwise. The overwhelming majority of Bancroft students are come from the low-income apartments off Mount Pleasant St.

But they do send them to Deal and Wilson.
