This is basically the Wyngate neighborhood--search the listserve for many comments on it. Very family friendly. Can walk to parks, the BBQ truck, and metro but not much else. 5-10 minute drive for downtown Bethesda, Westfield mall, or grocery stores. More like 15 to 20 for target and stuff like that.
Schools are good but very big (like all mcps in this part of the county).

I live in the Wyngate neighborhood - on the other side of the neighborhood from Ayrlawn Park. It's a great neighborhood and the schools are excellent. It's very family friendly. There is a community listserve and a neighborhood village (based on the village concept) called Wyngate Neighbors Helping Neighbors. My kids go to Wyngate elementary and we have been very happy with the education they are getting there. The feeder schools for the neighborhood are Wyngate ES, North Bethesda MS and Walter Johnson HS. It's a walkable neighborhood and you can get to restaurants and stores within a 10 minute drive. Downtown Bethesda is a 10 minute drive.

We live just up the street. I LOVE the neighborhood. It’s a 5 minute drive to anything you could need. The park itself is awesome for the little ones. It’s extremely family friendly and feels very safe. For schools check out this link:http://gis.mcpsmd.org/SchoolAssignmentTool2/AddressInput.xhtml. They are great around this area. Best of luck.

Any thoughts on the Ayrlawn Park surrounding area/ neighborhood? Family friendly? Schools? Walkable? Close to amenities?
