At my kids school, they always had an option not to do them (or they had to give a card/candy to ALL classmates).
My kids opted not to do this since 3rd grade. Never been happier.

My DD is in 7th, and she just gave out little candies to all her friends (boys and girls) last year. She changed rooms for every class so there was no ONE class.

Yeah, what a bummer to hear. My 5th grader and I were preparing her Valentines for the class tonight, and inside I was thinking, "Yay! Last time!"

my 12 year old is passing out the mini bags of m&ms. i think candy is probably the safest option.

I would have him pick them out. Cvs, rite aid, target all sell some. My son was not thrilled with the selection, but picked one he was ok with. Amazon sells them also, you could probably get them shipped in a day.

Thanks for your input, but my 12 year old boy does not know what the selection of Valentines Day cards are like. There is not much time after school, sports, homework, dinner for him to go looking for them. It is much easier for all of us if I just do it on my lunch break.


It would b even easier if you didn't do it at all.

If you're giving candy, just pass out the Valentine's type mini candies and you can write the names on the bag or box (DS gives out little bags of m&m's and there's a tiny space on them for to/from).

I found a box that are paper airplanes. No cute little saying just a preprinted paper with instructions on how to make an airplane. DS is going to roll them up and add a lollipop.

My 5th grade boy is all about the candy. He doesn't want any specific characters, but a Skittles or other candy brand card is ok.

I'm not sure what kind of cards to get my 6th grade son to exchange for the class Vday exchange. Nothing is considered "cool" and I definitely can't get the little cards that say "be my valentine". That would be too awkward to give to a girl. what do you suggest?
