Could you provide a bit more info about this child? A "variety of special needs" is so broad and vague. Most posters on this board are going to give info related to ADHD and ASD, and you are going to get a smattering of anxiety, OCD, and then there are moms who have kids with physical disabilities and genetic disorders.

Academic and behavioral issues are not even necessarily special needs. Is the child learning disabled? Does he have disordered behavior due to physical and psychological issues? All kids have behavioral issues, OP.

The Out of Synch Child

DC has dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, some anxiety and tics. The books that were most helpful in the early days related to the LDs. 'Overcoming Dyslexia" by Sally Shaywitz and "Proust and the Squid" by Maryann Wolf were too good ones. I did not like 'The gift of Dyslexia" nor " The Dyslexia Advantage". Both were too rah rah and were not my experience at all.

The best place I found to learn how to navigate school resources and learn about IEPs and testing is wrightslaw.com. Really good information and very inexpensive classes.

Our issues are add, dyslexia, asd, anxiety for 2 kids. These are the ones we still use.

There are lots more dyslexia- specific ones too, not sure if by academic you mean that or IEP process guidebooks.

I'm trying to find a selection of books to suggest to a friend whose child has a variety of special needs--academic and behavioral. I would love to hear from other parents about any books that have been especially helpful or informative as you navigate the world of special needs (both at home and in school)--happy to learn about books that have been around for a while or are relatively new.

I know I can also do some online searching, but wanted to see if there were any favorites on this board.
