I got married in NYC 5 years ago and most gifts were in the $150 to $300 range. Give what you can afford, the bride and groom (if they are nice people) should be appreciative of any gift.

Only believe this if you want to look cheap. I got married 10 years ago, and peopel have $250-$500. If it's a Jewish or an Italian wedding, at least $500.

I assumed the question was being asked because it is important to OP to be in the middle of the pack with what other guests are doing. If she were committed to the concept you're describing, she wouldn't have posted.

Actually many New Yorkers seem to think that bed bath and beyond is a NY institution. I used to live near one in NY so it would sometimes come up when telling someone where I lived. Many times people would say things that directly or indirectly claimed that having access to stores like bbb is one of the advantages of living in NY. Many New Yorkers also seem to think trader joes started in ny even though it was in many other states before opening in Manhattan. So no, I think a gift card to bbb is fine but I would shoot for around 250-500.

Ok I got married at the Yale club in NYC and people fully gave us toasters and things. Yes some people gave cash ($1000-$100) but I promise you it's fine. Plus places like Michael C Fina will let a couple swap out everything for cash. Don't worry about it. And I have seriously never heard of an executive wedding. For what it's worth, we are not Jewish.

So $400-500? Plus the cost of travel and lodging.

I hate how cash is given in Ny at weddings. It's almost like you're paying to attend the wedding. I've heard you're supposed to give the cost of your attendance. So if it's 250 a head then 500 as a couple.

However, our wedding was 250 a head and I don't think anyone gave us a 500 wedding gift.

I think it also depends on if the crowd is Jewish, waspy etc. the old money crowd isn't as big into cash payments at weddings.
