Yes. One fed in my old agency. He was a really bad employee. Belligerent and did no work. This situation (not making it past a year) was an anomaly.

Fed employee here. The only instances I know of making it through were:

- employee didn't pass final security clearance
- employee was really bad. Not just like, "he could work harder" but broke office rules, etc.
- employee was fine, but boss was insane and developed a personal dislike of employee and wanted to screw him over.

My office has a 3 month probationary period. We've never had anyone not make it through that, but we've sometimes extended probation to 6 or 9 months because there were early red flags. We've definitely let people go in under a year. It's not fair to a team of strong performers to allow slackers to hang on for years.

Is it a fed job? I've seen people not make it through probation in the Feds. From an HR standpoint is fairly easy to do. In my experience, the people let go during probation were pretty bad. It all depends on the office and your supervisor. My group had so much work we couldn't afford one of the seats taken up by someone who couldn't pull their weight.

Has anyone heard of someone not making it through a one year probationary period? Was it a complete disaster or just mildly not a good fit?

I will breathe a big sigh of relief if I can make it through my first year.
