OP here. Um, the pill is not an invasive procedure. A vasectomy is likely permanent.

It may not be a "procedure" but it sure as hell is invasive. I'll never understand men who claim it's "just a pill."

so is having a child, and the number it does on a woman's body.

Did you just preface your sentence with 'um'? That's a reason your wife doesn't respect you, doesn't matter how many vasectomies you get.

You should never do something you don't want to do with the hope that it will make someone behave a certain way. You need to make choices and own them. Your wife sounds awful but stand on that face alone, don't be a vasectomy martyr. Very unattractive behavior in general but especially in a man.

I agree with PPs...

I don't think women cheat just because a man won't take of the birth control. I'm sorry she's cheating on you, but your vasectomy or not is probably not the reason for the cheating. She probably would've cheated on you regardless, all other things being the same.

This. Very odd to connect the two.

I feel like this is the anti-vasectomy poster back.

What does a vasectomy have to do with your wife cheating? Did you want more children or not? A vasectomy is not a way to save a marriage; it's just birth control.

I am confused as to why you would think this. Regardless, it seems like you have other issues in your marriage.

I had a vasectomy back in 2003, solely to relieve my wife of the burden of birth control and associated female side effects. We both are in good physical condition as we enter our fifties. Sex is okay, but rather infrequent (once a month), with age related female libido loss to blame.

My wife has cheated on me a few times over the past 5 years. Not sure if she will ever stop?

Guilt would wreck me if I were to cheat on her.

I regret thinking that a vasectomy would increase her respect level for me and our marriage.
