My son runs cross country and loved his Asics last season, but they were nearly-top-of-the-line $160 models. There was a huge difference in quality between them and the other Asics we saw on display. I'm thinking you really get what you pay for with running shoes.

I have toes that apparently each need their own personal space, and for years I could only run with Brooks (Ghost and Glycerin). Recently got my first pair of Saucony (Ride 8), and so far they are working out OK.

I had to break up with them when I was training for the Marine Corps this year. The toe box is too narrow for my feet and I got "burning toes" during my long runs. I saw a podiatrist and he recommended new shoes with a wider toe box. I bought some Sauconys that have a much wider toe box so the burning toes is not a problem any more.

I was wondering the same thing as the sizing for the Cumulus has been off for a year or so. I've worn the same shoe and size for 10+ years and recently they feel very uncomfortable.

I love Brooks Glycerin with my orthotics. I've been wearing them for years and the latest ones seem even more comfortable than ever

What model of Asics?

I spent a little bit more time researching my last pair of running shoes than I used to. I was a bit disappointed in how quickly my previous pair wore out and was also dealing with back issues. So decided to research and invest a little bit more in a decent pair of running shoes.

Some things to remember is that every brand has a lower line and higher line, where I'm sure some of it is you get what you pay for. But they also have so many different types of shoes. Where some highly rated ones are very minimalist, with very little cushioning as well.

If I recall correctly, I did have Asics on my list of shoes to consider. I can't remember if it was the Cumulus or Nimbus. Some name like that. Also if I recall correctly, I think some reviews said that Asics were a bit more narrow than other shoes. Since I have wider feet, that made me put Asics towards the bottom of the list.

A while back some place said that New Balances were good for wider feet and that's what I wore for more than ten years. I've been satisfied with them and only changed to try something different about five years ago.

But I think most of the brands had a model of shoe that I was willing to check out. ie Nike, Saucony, Brooks, Asics, etc.

I also felt like Asics shock absorption has gone downhill. I recently changed to the New Balance 870 and I love them. My other shoe is the Brooks Ravenna. Light years better than Asics, IMO.

Try Brooks. You'll love them.

I'm sad to hear this. ASICS used to be the only thing for me.

Since becoming too fat to run, I've had less use for them. Wearing more boots and mocs these days.

Did ASICS change factories?

OP here. I occasionally had issues with New Balance being narrow at the toe-usually if I ordered from a discount place. More often than not though they are great. So disappointed I wasted money on Assics, but I used to love their cross-trainers and running shoes.

I love Asics in the 90's. I buy all my sneakers at either DSW or online through Rue La La. Discounts at both places. I don't think I've ever paid full price for sneakers (I worked in a discount shoe store in high school, which started it). I couldn't care less about the new line for the current season or anything like that.

I actually have narrow feet and I like Saucony. New Balance tends to be a little wide for me.

I have one pair of Asics I like but bought them over an year ago on sale. Wear them mostly for running errands since I retired them from gym/running.

Anyone else think quality control has gone way down? I bought a pair of great looking cross-trainers that had horrible shock absorbency so I figured I'd just use them for errands or something. Ordered another pair that was supposedly the new version of what I used to use all the time and I thought they were fine, until I worked out in them. The pain was terrible after a short period of time and I have great orthotics. Soooooo disappointed. I plan to write a letter to the company because I feel like I have thrown money out the window. I'm done with them.

New Balance may become my only boo.
