I haven't done the ghost tours, but the cemetery tours are awesome. There's at least one quite close to the French Quarter.

It'll be shortly after Mardi Gras.
Thanks for all the recommendations so far! I wish there was like a "19th century girl" tour of New Orleans -- she read all the AG books and would like something like that -- but I haven't seen anything like that.
Has anyone done one of the ghost tours? Are they too gory for a kid?

A half day? Just go to the Quarter and the Square. Look at the street vendors and performers. Have her get her palm read. Get some authentic food while sitting up on 2nd story veranda. Maybe a carriage tour? There is always the aquarium but for a half day, I rather just do the heart of NOLA, eat and take lots of pics.

I've got about half a day to spend in New Orleand with my 10 year old daughter. Any suggestions for what to do, where to go, what to eat? I haven't been there myself in about 15 years.
