Lots of misconceptions on this thread. First, SJC had 1110 applicants, so competition will be real. Second, freshman football does not cut...if you want to play you can. But basic point is right, with those credentials admission is likely.

This is 16:49- I forgot to add I think your DC has a great shot at admission, just would definitely temper expectation about the sports aspect.

SJC still accepts most applicants. It has become the closest thing NWDC has to a good public school although catholic. Yes, you pay a bit but tuition is nothing compared to area privates so they accept most and families pay least. A win-win.

Take a look at a few of the threads from last year and you'll see one mom in particular upset her son was WL'd over another student with lower test scores and couldn't for the life of her figure out why. A first choice letter would probably not be a bad idea.

DC wants to play football and lacrosse.

Has he been in touch with the coaches?

No he has not. Should he reach out to the coaches?

Absolutely- You basically have no chance of playing Football or LAX at SJC without being recruited, or very, very good (i.e. playing club level LAX for some years).

If you are at the level of play of SJC, I'm sure there may be some interest from the coaches and the potential to play, but I don't think at a place like SJC playing those sports at a lower level will give any admissions boost.

There was a thread a few months back about sports in the WCAC to take a look at- although there were a few derailments there was some pretty accurate information in that thread.

Even if you don't get in... apply again as a transfer student. My son went to a magnet HS and did not like the vibe and we applied as a transfer student and got in mid-year. Freshman year is hard, kids that don't transition well to HS leave, and spot are open 1/2 way through.

Good luck! No personal experience other than a nephew who is there and could not be happier, and his parents who feel the same. Niece has applied so perhaps they will be classmates. Can't tell you not to worry - been there, done that. Keep those fingers crossed and best of luck , from what I have seen - it's a great place for a kid to thrive and learn.

This is OP. DC grades and recommendations are good. I think I am just freaking out. DC should have applied to more than one school. Oh well my fingers are crossed.

With good grades and recommendations? Very good, especially if coming from an ADW elementary. They are very supportive of people who have made a commitment to Catholic education. If not coming from Catholic, probably still very good because that's a decent HSPT score.

What are the chances of my DC getting into SJC with a 90+ on the HSPT? I am getting nervous because DC only wanted to apply to SJC.
